Finally!! FG pegs fee for post-UTME at N2,500 as CBT gets scrapped

Post secondary school candidates during a Computer Based Test Examination organised by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board This new development was revealed in a statement issued by Prof Michael Faborode, secretary-general of the Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU) on Wednesday, July 6 at Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

The secretary-general of AVCNU explained thatdifferent interest groups in the education sector reached a compromise after officials of the education ministry, federal universities, polytechnics and colleges of education, had alldiscussed the issue extensively.Prof Faborode stated that all the stakeholders agreed that the post-UTME screening should be maintained after CBT was scrapped. The statement reads:“From the statement made by the permanent secretary, Dr Folashade Yemi-Esan at the meeting, there is no objection to screening by universities as long as it is not another CBT.
“She agreed that universities should advertise and the maximum fee that should be charged for the screening should be N2,500 – bank charges inclusive.’’ The statement further explained that AVCNU will officially make its position known on the issue to the minister of education, Malam Adamu Adamu. Of recent, the minister of education announcedthe ban on post-UTME which led to rise of tension among stakeholders in the education sector. The earlier decision about a week ago by Adamu on behalf of the government reiterating its desire to place a permanent ban on the post-UTMEmakes it to seem the education ministry was speaking with two sides of its cheeks about the post-UTME issue.
