Real Madrid have made a shock decision shifting their attention to Santiago Solari as the favourite to replace Julen Lopetegui.
Lopetegui who took over from Zinedine Zidane just four months, is set to be sacked following Sunday’s 5-1 defeat against Barcelona on Sunday which capped a miserable start to the new season.
Conte has been out of work since he was sacked by Chelsea back in August and had been linked with a move to the Bernabeu
But his hopes of securing the big job has hit the rock, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.
The Italians time at the Stamford Bridge was ultimately undermined by a series of arguments with Chelsea’s board.
Solari is now emerging as a genuine candidate to take charge of Real Madrid.
Lupetegui, however, surprised a core of first team stars by presiding over training on Monday.
The former Spain coach joined the Champions League holders having been dismissed by the Spanish Football Federation on the eve of the World Cup.
