Police to investigate Fayose

Persons who allegedly suffered harassment during the last Ekiti state gubernatorial electionhave written petitions against Governor Ayo FayoseThe majority of the petitions were said to have originated from members of the All Progressives Congress in the state.

The police have begun investigating some of the cases in the petition and intend to invite the governor’s loyalists for interrogation The office of the Inspector general of police as received not less than 102 petitions against Governor Ayo Fayose.Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state may have found himself in trouble waters again as the office of the inspector general of police has received not less than 102 petitions against the governor relating to harassment of persons during and after the last governorship election in the state.
The majority of the petitions were said to have originated from the members of the All Progressives Congress in the state.The police have begun investigating the some of the cases in the petition and intend to invite the governor’s loyalists who were either in the employment of the state or in other positions when they partook in the acts stated in the petitions.Though some of the cases have been already investigated by a special police team, led by one CSP Ndah, the police failed to arrest some of the governor’s aides during the tenure of the last inspector general of police, Mr. Solomon Arase because Fayose was said to have raisedthe alarm, alleging that the police were coming to raid the state and his personal house.However, following the conclusion of the army’s inquiry into roles played by its officers and men during the election, a police source said that the time was ripe for the police to look at the petitions again.He said:“The police have over 102 petitions against the governor which we are investigating. Soon, we will start inviting the suspects for interrogation,” the senior police officer said. He added, “We have the petitions already worked on by a senior police officer, who is retired now, but we are looking at them again so that it doesn’t look as if we are sweeping anything under the carpet.”
The PDP members trooped out in their numbers in Ido-Ekiti headquarters of Ido/Osi local government, in support of Governor Ayo Fayose, The Nation reports.The petitions were said to have been written bythose alleged to have either been harassed, beaten or detained before, during, and after thelast governorship election in the state.According to the protesters, any attempt by thefederal government to remove Governor Fayose will not be condoned.
